Xelptra began in 2018 as a passion project between three friends – Sarah Thompson, Michael Chen, and Robert Williams – who shared a love for gaming and technology. Working from Sarah's apartment in downtown Toronto, they envisioned a platform that could capture the excitement of casino games without the financial risks associated with real gambling.
The initial prototype was developed over six intense months, with the founders often working through the night fueled by coffee and their shared vision. Their first app launched in early 2019 with just five slot games and a basic poker simulator.
What set Xelptra apart from the beginning was its uniquely Canadian approach – incorporating familiar cultural elements and focusing on building community rather than encouraging spending. This approach resonated with Canadian players, and within a year, Xelptra had grown to over 50,000 active users.
By 2021, we had secured our first round of major funding, expanded our team to 25 talented professionals, and moved into our current headquarters in Toronto's tech district.
